Abstract: A Public Transport (PT) system consists of various physical features such as roads, railways, routes, and stops, which are represented by a complex network of spatial and temporal data, such as timetables and demand. Since these networks are usually very large and include millions of entities from numerous sources, it is difficult to assess PT systems. Assessment in this context is defined as the ability to extract and analyze data in an automated and recurring process so as to enhance decision making and to make it possible to compare PT networks over time, analyze network connectivity, etc.. The main objective of the presentation is to introduce different approaches to spatiotemporal analysis, which are based on the availability of different data sets, namely network structure, PT data (GTFS based), and demand. It will be shown that even with reduced data sources availability it is possible to perform high-quality analysis.
About the speaker: Dr. Yuval Hadas earns his Ph.D. in Transportation Sciences from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He is a faculty at the Department of Management since 2003 and focuses his research on public-transit, information systems, GIS, routing, and emergency logistics. Yuval has a vast experience in optimization, simulation, and data analysis (both spatial and non-spatial). He is currently the head of the Supply Chain Management and logistics studies at Department. In the past, Yuval served as assistant to the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Transport, Israel.
