専門図書の出版 Life-oriented Behavioral Research for Urban Policy (Springer)

On January 2017, the book “Life-oriented Behavioral Research for Urban Policy”, Edited by Prof. Junyi Zhang, was formally published by Springer. This is the first book in literature to present a general picture of life choice research from the interdisciplinary perspective.
Even though various dialogues between different disciplines occur here and there, unfortunately, behavioral disciplines with truly interdisciplinary features could not be found in literature for supporting urban policy decisions, which are usually associated with various life domains. The life-oriented approach argues that people’s various life choices, being attributable to quality of life (QOL), are interrelated of each other. In other words, one life choice may not only results from other life choice(s), but also affect other life choice(s). Such interdependencies are essential to understand human decisions.
This book aims to present the life-oriented approach as one of the “common languages” to facilitate the “talk” between different stakeholders for improving people’s QOL.
The life-oriented approach also provides a fundamental theory for supporting research on young people.

5. Abstract:
The inter-city access changes brought by nationwide high-speed rail (HSR) network development are expected to reconfigure intra-city land use patterns and generate long-term economic development benefits, most significantly in regional business and tourism hubs. While such a political justification for multibillion-dollar public spending in HSR is debatable worldwide, this empirical research examines the geographic relationships between HSR terminal locations, metro line extensions, and public land auctions in Wuhan, China. A set of spatial econometrics models were applied to estimate the capitalization effects of inter-city access changes on transaction prices of public lands leased for commercial, residential, and industrial uses during the period of 2004–2016 around three HSR stations and along four metro extensions, respectively. Findings and lessons gained from this spatiotemporal analysis on Wuhan are of particular importance for local policymakers, transportation planners, land administrators, private developers, and international bankers who seek strategic land management and innovative infrastructure finance in HSR-hub cities of emerging economies under state leasehold systems.

7. Short bio of presenter
Dr. Jin Murakami is a transnational city planner and academic researcher. He has specialized in the areas of transportation and economic development, spatial planning and development strategy in globalization, and project management and land policy. His studies focus principally on “spatial” and “financial” matters that influence city-regions’ global competitiveness and local livability. His recent works include an international study of transit-oriented developments (TODs) across Asia and North America, an empirical analysis of the impacts of railway network evolution and airport access improvement on business agglomeration patterns in U.S. metropolitan areas, megaprojects and value capture opportunities in Asian capitalist cities, and a case study of technology, mobility and spatial planning for aging communities in Japan, North America, and China. Dr. Murakami completed his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley (2010). He also holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Tokyo (1999). He was previously working as a Research Fellow in the Institute of Urban and Regional Development (IURD) at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California Transportation Center (UCTC). 地域づくりに資するITS等の活用に関する研究 －『地域における課題・ニーズ』に関する有識者アンケート

土木学会では，この15年に渡って地域の交通をより賢くするためのITS研究を実施してきました．その活動は主として道路空間での渋滞解消や交通安全対策などが中心でした．

交通は地域の多様な活動を下支えするものであり，ITSは道路空間だけに限らず，公共交通空間やまち・地域空間でも積極的に課題解決に貢献し，さらには防災・医療・少子高齢化など地域が抱える多様な社会問題の解決にも貢献したいと考えております．

この問題意識に基づき，平成28年11月に土木計画学研究委員会内に「ITSとインフラ・地域・まちづくり研究小委員会」（研究代表者：清水哲夫首都大学東京教授）を設置いたしました．

小委員会ではITSの多様なニーズを把握し，新たな研究の可能性を模索するために，地域で多様な活動を展開されている有識者の方々に，日常の業務で解決が求められる課題について，幅広にご意見を伺いたいと考えております．
